Membership For Existing Lodges

For Existing Lodges

Why Lodges Transfer to the Grand Orient:

  • They want to promote Civic Virtue and be a cornerstone of their community
  • A desire to be a part of a modern 21st century organization
  • A desire to be a part of an organization that cares about them and their future
  • A need for more flexibility within the Masonic system to meet the needs of younger members
  • A desire to be a part of a successful and growing national Masonic body

We believe in you and your Lodge. It’s this basic philosophical difference that sets the Grand Orient apart from other Masonic organizations. It’s because of this underlying philosophy that we realize each Lodge is its own unique microcosm operating within the greater Masonic system of Lodges. Your Lodge is unique and needs the freedom to operate in a way that best meets the needs of its members. Cookie-cutter approaches to solving the present decline in membership will always fail because they can’t address the specific needs of each individual Lodge. The Grand Orient is focused on your success as an organization and provides you with the freedom and tools needed to create a thriving and healthy Lodge.

Lodges that transfer to the Grand Orient are pleasantly surprised to discover the benefits of being a part of a dynamic and innovative Masonic organization that focuses on their success.

Halcyon Lodge – Case Study

Halcyon Masonic lodge and the headquarters of Grand Orient Freemasonry in AmericaHalcyon Lodge No. 498 was formed under the Grand Lodge of Ohio in 1875. By the 1980′s several other lodges had been forced to merge with Halcyon due to declining membership. Their eighty year old building was in a state of disrepair and the future of the lodge looked hopeless.

In late 2007 Halcyon Lodge severed its ties to the Grand Lodge of Ohio and received a Charter from the Grand Orient of the United States. The Grand Orient worked closely with the officers and members of Halcyon Lodge to indentify the key issues that were resulting in the failure of their organization. A business plan was developed to resolve these issues and implementation began quickly thereafter.

After only two years the situation at Halcyon Lodge has changed dramatically.

  • Membership has increased by 31%
  • Participation in the lodge and events has more than quadrupled
  • New member retention is 100%
  • The lodge’s cash flow is now positive
  • The temple is in the third phase of restoration
  • Annual cost of temple operations is down by 67%[break]

These results are possible in all lodges when the grand body does its job by focusing on the needs of its lodges and members. The Grand Orient realizes that each lodge has its own unique needs and issues. By seeing each lodge as a unique Masonic entity, the Grand Orient is able to create solutions tailored specifically for that lodge.
