Halcyon Lodge – Case Study

Halcyon Lodge No. 498 was formed under the Grand Lodge of Ohio in 1875. By the 1980′s several other lodges had been forced to merge with Halcyon due to declining membership. Their eighty year old building was in a state of disrepair and the future of the lodge looked hopeless.

In late 2007 Halcyon Lodge severed its ties to the Grand Lodge of Ohio and received a Charter from the Grand Orient of the United States. The Grand Orient worked closely with the officers and members of Halcyon Lodge to indentify the key issues that were resulting in the failure of their organization. A business plan was developed to resolve these issues and implementation began quickly thereafter.

After only two years the situation at Halcyon Lodge has changed dramatically.

These results are possible in all lodges when the grand body does its job by focusing on the needs of its lodges and members. The Grand Orient realizes that each lodge has its own unique needs and issues.
